Showtune Tuesday

This week's choice is from How To Succeed In Business (Without Really Trying). Reminds me of Mad Men a little.

Showtune Tuesday

I can't believe it has taken me this long to get to Chicago, the musical! I mean I live in Chicago and I just didn't think about it. Now that it has occurred to me, I had to pick "We Both Reached for the Gun". This is an amazing feat of choreography. The timing, the precision - outstanding. You have to watch it several times to really appreciate the hard work!

Showtune Thursday

I know, I know. It's supposed to be Showtune Tuesday. I had to spend some time in Ohio and couldn't post on Tuesday. So for this week, we are doing Showtune Thursday. Since I was home, I decided to post Marian the Librarian from The Music Man. My father sang this song to my mother, who was a librarian at the University that daddy attended. I like it when she says, "What do you want to take out?" and Harold responds with "The Librarian".

While I am a little on the old side to like Zac Efron, I do. I also like this part of Hairspray because it is so upbeat.

Showtune Tuesday

When I was little, this was my favorite musical. My parents took me to see everytime it was in town. Because I have two brothers who were not interested in a girly show, they always took me by myself. It was wonderful. We would eat at Hathaways in Carew Tower and then take in the show. When I was six, I even had a dress like Annie with a little tiny Sandy in the pocket. At the time, The Taft Theatre sold refreshments, but it was always warm drinks - no ice. Daddy would buy me a warm coke and m&m's. He would hide the m&m's in his suitcoat pocket. They had to be a secret from Moma or she would call it dessert and we would skip Grater's. It was always a game to sneak my hand into his suit coat pocket and pull out an m&m or two. We would always giggle about how we were fooling Moma. Of course, looking back, she knew. She always knew.

Let's hope the Sun Comes Out Tomorrow.

Showtune Tuesday

Today's choice was inspired by Oprah's show yesterday. She did the 60's/Mad Men episode. (I die.) Jersey Boys were on the show. I originally saw this show here in Chicago, when it first opened. I enjoyed it, but was taken aback by all the foul language.

This is from the show Curtain performed at the 2007 Tony Awards. I think David Hyde Pierce is so talented.

Showtune Tuesday

Today, we have a little different twist on Showtune Tuesday. While this video is older and made the rounds via forwarding, I still love watching it. I love the shock on the spectator's faces. And once the music starts, everyone looks so happy. Nothing can make someone smile more than the incomparable Julie Andrews.

For this stunt, more than 200 dancers were performing their version of "Do Re Mi", in the Central Station of Antwerp. With just 2 rehearsals they created this amazing routine. It was a promotional stunt for a Belgian television program, where they were looking for someone to play the leading role, in the musical of "The Sound of Music". Isn't the dance remix fun?

Marlon Brando is wonderful as Sky Masterson. Of course, Sister Sarah Brown was my favorite. I loved that she fell for the bad guy. And won.

An all-time favorite, Some Enchanted Evening. Ezio Pinza was a basso opera singer from Italy. After his career in opera at The Met, he went into film. Pinza created the part of Emile de Becque in the original Broadway production of "South Pacific". His performance of "Some Enchanted Evening" on the original Broadway cast album as a big hit, and introduced him to a mass audience. He went on to play the role in the movie version.

Showtune Tuesday

The Lion King is one of my favorite movies and one of my favorite musicals. I cried the first time I was in the audience. The costumes are amazing and unique. The music is so moving and different from the traditional Braodway fare.

Showtune Tuesday

Like most girls, I love Legally Blonde: The Movie. I also watched the Search for Elle Woods on MTV and liked it alot. But, I was still nervous about the musical. I really really wanted it to be great, so everyone would like it. When it came to Chicago, we went the first week and I really liked it. Do I think it will be in the running like Wicked or Avenue Q? No, but it was a lot of fun all on it's own. I definitely was singing this song, long after the curtain fell.

Showtune Tuesday

I saw The Color Purple during its pre-Broadway debut in Chicago. I was a little worried about it, because the theme is very serious. The book is very emotionally involved as is the movie. I knew it had to be a challenge to make this serious show into something upbeat. It was amazing. I loved this whole show. You cry a little, are sad a little, but you also have this amazing foot tapping, hand clapping part. We left very upbeat and singing a lot of the songs.

This is Fantasia from American Idol singing I'm Here:

This week's treat. The incredible and multi-talented Angela Lansbury. A great show (and don't compare it to the movie, please).

Showtune Tuesday

I was a Opening Night Mary Poppins (or as Gracie says Mary Hoppins) in Chicago. It was wonderful and I was most impressed by the child actors. Lots of dialogue and dancing. Burt dancing around the stage and Mary flying were wonderful effects.

Showtune Tuesday

This is one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite musicals. It's Kate Monster singing Fine Fine Line from Avenue Q. I have been to Avenue Q twice in NYC, once in Chicago and once in Cincinnati. I loved it everytime. Enjoy!
