We are headed out to a suburb of Chicago, Barrington for a birthday party. Here is the outfit for the evening!

Awesome!

Do you think the Chicago Symphony will add this to the lineup?

Green with Envy

I wore this for a lecture presentation given by several of our team members from corporate. I love the green and felt it was great to have some color versus the usual black/gray/brown suits floating around the office.

You Are Not Alone

I am still in a little bit of shock about Michael Jackson. I know lots of people didn't like him, but I grew up on his music. My weejuns were the best thing for doing the moonwalk across the garage floor. Thriller, Bad, Billy Jean, Black & White, You Are Not Alone, the list goes on. It is just so sad. Here is one of my favorite songs and it seems even more appropriate now.

The September Issue

Look what's coming. From the Sundance Festival: Anna Wintour, editor of Vogue for 20 years, is the most powerful and polarizing figure in fashion. Larger than life and more complex than fiction, Wintour embodies a fascinating contradiction of passion and perfectionism as she reigns over a dizzying array of designers, models, photographers, and editors. Director R.J. Cutler delivers a rare insider account of the nine months leading up to the printing of the highly anticipated September issue of the magazine, which promises to be the biggest one ever. He takes us behind the scenes at fashion week, to Europe and back, on shoots and reshoots, and into closed-door staff meetings, bearing witness to an arduous and sometimes emotionally demanding process. At the eye of this annual fashion hurricane is the two-decade relationship between Wintour and Grace Coddington, incomparable creative director and genius stylist. They are perfectly matched for this age-old conflict between creator and curator. Through them, we see close up the delicate creative chemistry it takes to remain at the top of the ever-changing fashion field. Cutler cleverly deconstructs the creative process as it plays out in the hollowed halls of Vogue, lined with racks of couture. In The September Issue, his access and insight are impressive and make us aware that he is offering us a privileged glimpse into a world many dream about but few see.

I will definitely be lining up to see this film. Dreams!

The Heartland Cafe

Last night, I met ECW for dinner at The Heartland Cafe. It was a little funny how we ended up here. This is one of his favorite places, but somehow he never told me that. I was going through my a la cards, and noticed Heartland. It seemed up his alley, so I suggested it. He was thrilled and a little amused that I suggested it. I had the maple-pineapple free range chicken with wild rice and zucchini. It came with a side of cornbread. The chicken was delicious. The cornbread was too thick and heavy for me. I like light and soft cornbread. They use cornmeal, but it is a little coarse. The cafe is very interesting. It has the smell of light patchouli and cedar. They have a little shoppe attached selling lots of naturey/organic products. Mostly it was fun to sit on the screened in porch and catch up with ECW.

Not Really, But...

Whenever I feel like listening to a fun little song, I always pick Today I Met the Boy I'm Going to Marry. Ever since Father of the Bride, I have loved this song. When Flyboys came out, I went with my father. He read the book and was looking forward to seeing the movie. I found this on youtube a while ago, but thought it was fun for today. I haven't yet met 'The Boy", but one day soon.

A Little Treat

Today I popped into Pier 1. In general, I don't personally care for Pier 1. Everything seems so generic. However, I did find a beautiful candle in a perfectly pink holder on the clearance shelf. The fragrance is Pink Honeysuckle. The note with the candle says the fresh, clean floral scent of our Pink Honeysuckle Filled Jar Candle is a blend of honeysuckle and fresh lilac sweetened with hints of musk, mimosa, and night blooming jasmine. The best part is the $3.89 price tag. I have been burning it all evening and it is perfect for summer.

I Smell Pretty

Oh, so pretty. Now that the warm weather has arrived in the Windy City, I am am excited to use my new summer fragrance. Drum roll please - - - Lilly Pulitzer Squeeze. Squeeze comes in a lovely yellow bottle with a coordinating Lilly print ribbon. Squeeze is an exotic fragrance which opens with aromas of litchi, pink grapefruit and red currant. The heart includes lotus and wild rose petals, while the base notes introduce sunny accords of wood and musk. Lilly has two other fragrances, Beachy and Wink. Both are lovely. My mother and I both chose Squeeze because of the grapefruit fragrance. When I was in 8th or 9th grade and Bath & Body Works opened in the mall near my house. It was a girl's dream come true - so much to play with. Mother and I both loved the Fresh Grapefruit scent. Ever since then, we have always loved anything with a fresh grapefruit note. If you are looking to shake up your fragrance, Lilly's scents are perfect for the summertime preppy.

Showtune Tuesday

This is one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite musicals. It's Kate Monster singing Fine Fine Line from Avenue Q. I have been to Avenue Q twice in NYC, once in Chicago and once in Cincinnati. I loved it everytime. Enjoy!

DIY Longchamp

While I know many preppies who are all too familiar with Longchamp, I was on their website recently and noticed a Custom feature. You can design your own bag. Pink & Green, Black & White, you name it you can create it. You can also have it monogrammed. So much fun...

Check it out!

Nautical Inspired

Today, I was very inspired by the warm weather that finally arrived. It was about 85 degrees, but our building is very chilly, so the sweater seemed appropriate. Today was a very preppy outfit with a touch of Nautical. I really love my topsiders. Definitely a preppy staple.
